Fault Finding

This depends on a number of factors including: The quality of your homes electrical installation, the ease of access to electrical equipment and outlets, ease of access under floors and above ceilings. Generally most faults on well installed systems can be found within an hour or 2. Electrical installs with lots of DIY add ons can make it trickier and therefore take longer to find faults.

Sometimes yes! If the fault is on the socket circuit for example and the MCB or RCD (breaker) won’t stay up, you can go round unplugging everything in your home and try resetting the tripped breaker. If it resets and power is restored you can then plug everything back in 1 by 1. If it trips just after plugging a specific item back in then it is likely to be that item causing the issue. We would still recommend calling and electrician in to check everything but this will certainly save you paying for more time to initially find the fault.

Fault finding is typically completed on an hourly rate basis. This is due to the nature of fault finding. Some faults may be very easy to find and therefore cost you less to find and fix, while others may be more complicated to find, such as slight water ingress from somewhere. Here at AVB Electrical we charge a flat rate of £80+vat for fault finding during our regular working hours. This increases to £120+vat for out of hours on weekdays and on weekends.
