No, absolutely not! Having solar panels will speed up pay back time on your batteries but if solar panels aren’t an option a standalone battery system can still save you money on your energy bills.

If you do not have solar panels we can install what’s called an AC coupled battery system. This is a system that we can set to charge from the grid (the same energy that powers your home) during off peak/cheap rate hours and then use your battery to discharge and power the house during on peak hours. This means with the energy stored overnight on the off peak rate you are able to power your home during the daytime for much less.

There are 2 ways we can add batteries to an existing solar pv installation.

1- Add an AC coupled inverter that will charge the batteries at the same rate as the unused energy being exported to the grid.

2- Swap your current inverter to a hybrid inverter and connect the batteries directly to this inveter. 

These options would depend on many factors such as the method and location of your current installation, as well as your budget.
